BIAA HOME : NEW YORK STATE : RESOURCES : REHABILITATION

Rehabilitation

The goal of rehabilitation is to help the survivor of brain injury to regain the most independence possible. Rehabilitation is different for everyone because no two brain injuries are exactly alike.

This section of the guide will introduce the basics of rehabilitation. The doctors and nurses will be talking with you and your loved one about the rehabilitation process, and what to expect during this time. There are a number of places to gather additional information about rehabilitation programs in your area. After reviewing the materials included in this section, you may have questions. Seek out hospital discharge planners.

When choosing a sub-acute nursing facility, the NYS Department of Health maintains a website at NursingHomes.nyhealth.gov, with listings of facilities in the state (arranged by county), as well as the results of quality surveys. They also provide resources for choosing a facility, on their resource page.
