DESCRIPTION:Working with Individuals with Traumatic Brain Injuries: A Perspective from a Peer and a Provider with Psychiatric Comorbidities\nDrawing on personal experience with a severe TBI and the psychiatric comorbidities that often accompany it\, this presentation offers a unique look at traumatic brain injury from both sides of the table: the survivor and the provider. \nThe session will explore what individuals can expect in treatment\, the challenges that commonly arise\, and the therapeutic approaches that can support recovery. With a blend of lived insight and professional perspective\, it highlights practical strategies\, psychotherapies used in TBI care\, and a personal approach that proved effective and may offer guidance for others on the same path. \nThis webinar is free to attend. However\, if you’d like to receive CEUS or a certificate of completion\, there will be a $10 fee. \n\nDuring this session\, the thoughts and opinions expressed are those of the presenter and do not reflect the opinions and beliefs of the Brain Injury Association of New York State. \n\nAbout the presenter: \nKurt Warner has spent more than 13 years working in OASAS and OMH housing programs\, supporting individuals with what were then classified as Axis I chemical dependency and mental health diagnoses. For nearly four years\, he has continued this work as a therapist\, serving people living with traumatic brain injuries\, mental health conditions\, and chemical dependency. \nKurt also brings the insight of lived experience. He is a survivor of a severe traumatic brain injury that left a significant portion of his brain missing and required him to relearn walking and speaking after a forced cerebellar stroke. INTRODUCTION TO OCULOMOTOR AND VESTIBULAR ASSESSMENT AFTER CONCUSSION  \nConcussions are a common reason individuals seek out medical and rehabilitation services. Vestibular and oculomotor findings are common among this population\, however treatment of these impairments is often considered a specialty service. This presentation will provide an introduction to the examination of oculomotor and vestibular deficits and will provide insights into basic clinical management. \nThis webinar is free to attend. However\, if you’d like to receive CEUS or a certificate of completion\, there will be a $10 fee. \n\nDuring this session\, the thoughts and opinions expressed are those of the presenter and do not reflect the opinions and beliefs of the Brain Injury Association of New York State. \n\nAbout the presenter: \n \nJake McPherson\, DPT\, PhD\, serves in concurrent roles as a member of the University at Buffalo (UB) Rehabilitation Science faculty and the UB Comprehensive Concussion Management Center’s Research Team. His research work includes interdisciplinary concussion management as well as the effects of sport and non-sport related concussion on vestibular function. His PhD work investigated relationships between functional performance outcomes and molecular changes within different brain regions following mild traumatic brain injury.
