The World Health Organization has declared Coronavirus, also called COVID-19, a pandemic. In light of this, the Brain Injury Association of New York State has decided to cancel all appearances and events for March, as well as the Oneonta Meet & Greet scheduled for April 6. We have been monitoring the situation very closely, and will be evaluating if future events will occur as new information becomes available.
We do not take this decision lightly and are in constant communication with our staff around the state, our Board of Directors and other stakeholders to determine the most responsible course of action.
Canceled events include all BIANYS-affiliated Support Groups and all Chapter meetings, as well as Brain Injury Advocacy Day that was to take place on March 25. The Meet & Greet scheduled for April 6 in Oneonta is also canceled. We understand how important these events are to the brain injury community, especially Support Groups and Chapters. Our number one priority is and always will be the well-being of brain injury survivors, caregivers, professionals and our staff and families.
Unfortunately, this means that BIANYS staff scheduled for awareness events and in-person training around the state are no longer available to attend. Again, BIANYS leadership will be monitoring the situation closely and making decisions about April and beyond as information develops.
All digital learning and webinars will go forward as planned.
BIANYS staff will be reaching out to any training sites to talk about possible virtual trainings and other options. Please follow us on social media and check our website for information on other opportunities for policy advocacy and training.
