The Concussion Education Modules
The Concussion Education Modules provide free, online learning opportunities presented by renowned concussion expert and Medical Director of the University at Buffalo Concussion Management Clinic Dr. John Leddy.
Through the recorded, on-demand modules, Dr. Leddy will provide the latest evidence-based information and strategies for assessing and managing concussion patients. Continuing education credits are included with each of these free modules.
New for 2025: Office Evaluation of Concussion: Efficient Use of the Sport Concussion Office Assessment Tool (SCOAT-6)
This module will provide a clear, practical plan for the SCOAT-6, a new tool for health care providers to evaluate concussions starting 72 hours after injury and during follow-up visits. This module will also provide key information including:
- the purpose and key elements of the Sport Concussion Office Assessment Tool (SCOAT-6) and the Buffalo Concussion Physical Examination (BCPE) and
- how to adapt the SCOAT-6 and BCPE components to conduct thorough, evidence-based concussion evaluations in a clinical setting in a 20–30-minute time frame.

2024 Modules: Clincal Assessment of Concussion and Persistent Post-Concussive Symptoms and Clinical Management of Concussion and Persitent Post-Concussive Symptoms
In these modules updated information from the 2022 Consensus Statement on Concussion in Sport will provide:
- updated guidelines for return to school and return to sport after injury;
- the definition and differential diagnosis of persisting post-concussion symptoms (PPCS); and
- updated information on managing a concussion – “cocooning” is out.

AANP will accept AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM from Jointly Accredited Organizations. Nurse practitioners can also apply for credit through their state boards.
Nursing (ANCC): This activity is designated for 1.25 contact hours.
CME Outfitters, LLC, has been authorized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 1.25 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. Approval is valid until March 14, 2028. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.
NYSATA (BOC AP# P315) is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Athletic Trainers. Each module is eligible for a maximum of 1.0 Category A hours/CEUs
BIANYS is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s Office of the Professions as a provider for continuing competencies in the following areas: Social Work (#0539), Physical Therapy/ PT Assistants, Speech-Language Pathologist & Audiologists, and Occupational Therapy/OT assistants. CBIS (Certified Brain Injury Specialist) continuing education credit and Certificates of Attendance are also available.
