Management of Headaches
Description
This presentation discusses and defines the different types of headaches that can occur following a trauma. It also presents management options for post-traumatic headaches.
Presenter
Kirk Lercher, MD
Dr. Lercher is dual board certificated in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) medicine. He received his medical degree from Rutgers University – New Jersey Medical School, where he then completed his internship in internal medicine. He completed his residency training in PM&R at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation and fellowship training in TBI at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Since joining the faculty of the Department of Rehabilitation and Human Performance at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in 2013, he has become the Medical Director of the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program and has since established and directs the program’s first ACGME accredited TBI fellowship. He also serves as the Medical Director of the Brain Injury Research Center (BIRC) at Mount Sinai Hospital where he works collaboratively with research faculty on various research projects involving patients recovering from traumatic brain injuries.

Management of Chronic Concussion Symptoms
Description
This session will discuss the management of chronic symptoms of concussion, including headaches, fatigue, insomnia, dizziness, mood and executive functions. This session will provide information regarding ways to evaluate and diagnose patients with these persistent symptoms, and offer ideas of support and resources.

Erika L. Trovato, D.O., M.S.
Dr. Trovato is board-certified in Brain Injury Medicine and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Trovato completed her residency in PM&R and her fellowship in Brain Injury Medicine at Rusk Rehabilitation at NYU Langone Health. Currently, she is the co-director of the brain injury inpatient rehabilitation program at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital in White Plains, NY. Dr. Trovato is also the director of the Brain Injury Fellowship and Associate Program Director of the PM&R residency at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital.
Objectives

Review different approaches to management
Discuss how the constellation of symptoms are diagnosed
Empower patients to be active in their recovery
