Description
This panel discussion focused on how to use an integrated approach to treating a concussion patient. It included medical professionals from throughout the state of New York.
Panel Members
Steve Flanagan, MD- Moderator
Dr. Flanagan is a nationally and internationally known expert in Traumatic Brain Injury and brain injury rehabilitation. Dr. Flanagan serves as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, NYU School of Medicine and as Medical Director of the Rusk Rehabilitation at NYU Langone Medical Center.
John Leddy, MD
Dr. Leddy is a Professor of Clinical Orthopedics and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and of the American College of Physicians, and Director of Outcomes Research for the Department of Orthopedics. He is a Member of the Expert Panel for the Berlin Fifth International Consensus Conference on Concussion in Sport and a consultant to the NIH on sport concussion research. In conjunction with Dr. Barry Willer, he developed the Buffalo Concussion Treadmill Test.
Brian Rieger, PhD
Dr. Rieger is Chief Psychologist and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. Dr. Rieger specializes in brain injury, and is the Program Director of the Upstate Concussion Center. He is a member of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYPHSAA) Concussion Management Team, and is the Psychology Liaison to the NYSPHSAA Safety Committee. He co-chairs the Brain Injury Association of New York State (BIANYS) Concussion Initiative.
Isabelle Lesko, PT, DPT, NCS
Isabelle is a Doctor of Physical Therapy who is board-certified in Neurologic Physical Therapy. She began her career at NYU Langone Health, where she worked in multiple departments including outpatient neurologic, neurologic ICU and step-down units in acute care, inpatient rehabilitation serving a medically complex population, and outpatient vestibular including a dedicated concussion unit. After relocating to the Capital District in early 2019, Isabelle joined Albany Medical Center outpatient Physical Therapy.
Kim Nemi, OTR/L, CBIS
Kim is an Occupational Therapist, Therapy Coordinator at Upstate Concussion Center and a Certified Brain Injury Specialist.
